Those are Terelj National Park, Manzshir monastery in Bogd Khaan National Park, Hustai National Park with wild horses, Chingis Khaan statue and Gun Galuut National Reserve.


➤ Terelj National Park – 70 km

Terelj with its granite rocks, pine trees and river is a picturesque area that is perfect for relaxing. There are good possibilities for hiking, climbing, horseback riding or, for those who are not afraid of the cold, swimming. There are several places for dinner.

 

➤ Khustai National Park – Przewalski Horse – 120 km

Khustai Nuruu National Park located about 100 km southwest from Ulaanbaatar. It was established in 1993 and protects today the Takhi, the Mongolian’s wild horses, also known as the Przewalski horses. The Takhi became extinct in the middle of the 20th century. They then could only be found in the zoos. Special breeding programs increased their numbers. From 1993, with the assistance from international environmental agencies, the Takhi horses were reintroduced in Mongolia. Today there are about 150 Takhi horses in Khustai.

 

➤ Manzshir Monastery Visit – 50 km

One hour driving will take to Manzshir monastery located 8 km from Zuunmod in Boghdkhan National Park. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful rolling hills covered with pine and cedar trees. The place is dotted with granite formation creating a mystical atmosphere. We can understand why monks settled here to live their religious life. The monastery was established in 1733 and included more than 20 temples and 350 monks. Tragically, it was destroyed during the Stalinist purges of 1937.

 

➤ Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue – 55km

It is located 55 km from Ulaanbaatar and one of the biggest advantages of the projects that was being implemented. The statue in total is 40m high from surface erected at about 10 m high foundation and surrounded by columns. The statue, Genghis riding his horse, is made by 250 tonnage steel. It is largest horse-riding statue in the World. Far sighted Genghis Khan holds a golden whip in his right hand. The building consisted of 36 supporting columns, symbolizes 36 kings who are direct lineage of Genghis Khan.
Recreation area, restaurants and souvenir shops will be located in the column surrounded base of the Statue and from here visitors will ascend to the exhibition hall using elevator at the back of the horse. The visitors will walk to the head of the horse through chest and back neck of the horse, where they can have farseeing and good panorama view over the complex area.

 

➤ Gun Galuut Natural Reserve – 150 km

Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve, 130 km south-east of Ulaanbaatar, has a great diversity of ecosystems even though it has a comparatively small area. The complex of high mountains, steppes, rivers, lakes and wetlands are kept in their original condition. Visitors to Gun-Galuut see vast steppes seeming to meet the sky, the imposing mountains of Baits and Berkh, the homeland of rare creatures, Ikh-Gun and Ayaga lakes, a paradise of birds, Kherlen, the longest river of Mongolia and the Tsengiin Burd wetland, where water and wetland birds lay their eggs.
